aftercare

the basics

no touching, twisting, or turning no matter what! avoid causing any pressure to the area, especially sleeping on it. we recommend a travel pillow to avoid this. avoid swimming for the first 4-6 weeks. this applies to the beach and pools. showering and washing your hair as normal is absolutely fine. just let water run over the area and pat dry after. and of course, spray twice a day! front and back or top and bottom.

downsizing

we cannot stress how important downsizing is. although not every single piercing requires it, when it it is necessary, it is damn necessary. when we pierce, we pierce with a longer bar to accompany for swelling initially, downsizing is when you shorten this bar after a safe amount of time. the time can vary from each person and piercing. if you scroll down there is a table with each piercings general downsize and full healing time. if you leave the longer bar in for too long it can cause unnecessary pressure and movement which prevents the piercing from continuing to heal, and can often be the downfall to many people's piercings.

oral piercing care

you can use sterile saline as per usual on any oral piercings, if you use mouthwash in your day to day basis you can continue that, just make sure its alcohol free always! if you dont use mouthwash, dont bother adding it into your routine as it can actually cause more damage. you can continue eating and drinking as normal, just make sure to avoid spicy and sour foods until comfortable. we know its pretty widespread that dairy is bad for oral piercings, however from personal experience (and the advice of a dental surgeon!) we dont believe this to be true, so keep chugging that milk and eating that ice cream as you wish :p this being said, we do suggest avoiding dairy for the first 2 weeks of a tongue piercing as it can create a buildup around the area while you cant brush your tongue as usual. we recommend to avoid smoking, drinking and vaping for at least the first two days, but we understand this can be an impossible task so just make sure to rinse your mouth out with water after a smoke, a cone or a drink!

why sterile saline?

the only product we ever recommend for your piercings is sterile saline. nothing more and nothing less. its a gentle spray that includes only two ingredients - salt and water this avoids causing any extra irritation to the piercing, especially for those with sensitive skin. the light amount of salt is enough to suck the bacteria out and kill it off while still avoiding drying the skin out and irritating the piercing. although the simple ingredients may make it seem DIY-able, tap water is nowhere near sterile and its almost impossible to create the perfect harmless ratio for your piercing.
